A few months ago I shared a little about a special family I had the opportunity to meet and spend some time in the studio with. Well today I want to share this miracle story from mama herself… Meet Julie.
At the age of 17 the world as I knew it changed drastically. I was just beginning my senior year of high school, when a diving accident left me a C-5 Quadriplegic. I went from an active, on the go teenager to someone who was completely dependent upon another for all my needs. When I first got hurt I couldn’t even scratch my nose. Thankfully my faith in God and will to not let the devil win I made great progress. After 9 weeks in the hospital the doctors told my parents, “Just take her home and see what happens.” I was more determined than ever to show them how big my God was.
My family was beside me every step of the way. I also had an awesome best friend/boyfriend, Matt who encouraged me every day. Matt took on all the challenges that came along. We were married in 2004 and began our lives together. After three years of marriage we welcomed our miracle baby, Tate into our family and faced all the new challenges that came along with raising a newborn. I learned how to do things for him to the best of my ability. He accepted me knowing no difference. One Christmas, he even tried to open one of his presents with his mouth because that was how he had seen mommy do it.
We wanted to add one more child to our family a few years after we had Tate and this is where we faced one of our greatest challenges. Matt and I had trouble staying pregnant and ended up losing three precious babies. It was a very hard time for us, but we faced each new day knowing that our babies were with their Heavenly Father, and that we would see them again one day. We eventually found a new doctor, Thomas Goggin, who helped us with our infertility issues. Thanks to his great care and our awesome God we were able to welcome our new miracle baby, Talley into our family.
We are grateful for our many blessings and try to live each day to its fullest because we know it is a gift from God. I don’t know where I would be now if I didn’t have Him as my Savior. I tell myself each day that, “God never gives you more than you can handle.” I won’t give up because if I do that means I’m letting the devil win.
God’s little Blessings: Talley and her big brother Tate
